Signaling mechanisms in corneal inflammation and angiogenesis

Ocular surface inflammation represents a complex multistep process that involves expression of cytokines and adhesion molecules, recruitment of inflammatory cells, expression of growth factors, and extracellular matrix remodeling. Accumulating evidence suggests a major co-dependence and integration of the processes of inflammation and angiogenesis. My research program investigates molecular signaling pathways in ocular surface inflammation and pathologic angiogenesis. The goals of this research are to provide insights into the signaling events involved in the initiation, maintenance, and resolution of an ocular inflammatory response, and identify novel targets for therapeutic intervention.
